The shadcn tabs behind @/components/ui/tabs — default well and line variants, a gliding indicator, and three overflow recipes for when the tab set outgrows the row.
Triggers in a muted well; the incoming panel fades in with a small rise — the one motion the seam adds.
The underline variant for page-level sections — the active rail fades in under the label.
Glyphs sit beside labels and inherit the trigger's color (icon law); a disabled trigger stays reachable by eye but not by hand.
Tabs inside a Radix Dialog — switch tabs, then close by clicking outside.
The default answer when tabs outgrow the row: one row always, overflow scrolls, edges fade where more remains, arrows nudge, and the picked tab auto-scrolls into view.
Show what fits, park the rest in a More (+N) menu — best when the tab set is stable. A hidden pick takes over the trigger with its name and glyph.
Unselected tabs compress to a glyph with a tooltip; only the active tab carries its label. Fits many tabs in one row, at the cost of scannability.
